Q4 2008 10 11 12 Q4 AMD Opteron (Zamora) is expected to
be released in H2 2008 on a 65nm process. Zamora is a 4 core CPU
based on the K8L architecture featuring 2MB
of shared L3 cache and Hypertransport 3. Each core will feature four
16-bit HT3 links, which can be dynamically changed to eight 8-bit links
via un-ganging, allowing a core in an 8 socket/32 core server to access
memory in any of the eight memory banks with a single hop. Zamora will interface to FBDIMM memory. Intel Xeon MP (Dunnington) (possibly cancelled) is expected to be released in 2008. The successor to Whitefield, Dunnington is expected to a multicore (>4 core) CPU. Intel Ridgefield desktop CPU is expected to be released in 2008 and is the large cache version of Wolfdale, featuring 6MB of L2 cache. Intel Nehalem CPU, the successor to the Core architecture and based on a 45nm process, is expected to be released in H2. Nehalem is expected to feature up to 8 cores, with two simultaneous threads per core - similar to Intel's Pentium 4 Hyperthreading technology, a multi-tiered cache system and an integrated DDR3 memory controller with support for 1 to 4 channels depending on the CPU model. Certain Nehalem models will also feature an integrated graphics core. Nehalem will introduce a new point-to-point serial bus (Common Serial Bus - CSI), replacing the antiquated PSB of previous generations. Intel Bloomfield CPU is expected to be released in Mid 2008 on a 45nm process. Bloomfield is based on the Nehalem architecture is the successor to Yorkfield. Bloomfield is expected to feature 4 cores, each of which features an advanced version of Hyperthreading, allowing 8 threads to be executed simultaneously per CPU. Bloomfield is also expected to feature an integrated memory controller and will introduce the new Socket B (Socket 1366) platform. Microsoft Office 14 Beta 1 is expected to be released H1 2008. See the RTM Roadmap entry for more details. Microsoft Office 14 Beta 2 is expected to be released H2 2008. See the RTM Roadmap entry for more details. |
