01

Windows Vista was released to the public on January 30th. See the Volume Release Roadmap entry for more information.

Microsoft Office 2007 was released to the public on January 30th. See the Volume Release Roadmap entry for more information.

Intel Core 2 Duo E4300 was released on January 21st. The E4300 featurex a 1.8GHz clock speed with 2MB L2 cache and run on an 800Mhz FSB. Core 2 Duo E4300 is priced at $163.

Intel CPU Price cuts occurred in January. See the Intel CPU Prices page for more information.

ATI Radeon X1950GT was released quietly on January 29th on an 80nm process. The X1950GT is expected to be the last R5xx release before the R600 is released and is based on the RV570LE core featuring 36 pixel pipelines and 8 vertex pipelines. The X1950GT features clock speeds of 500MHz core and 1.2GHz memory. The expected price of this GPU is US$169.

02

nVidia GeForce 8800GTS 320MB Edition was released on February 12th. The 320MB Edition is expected to feature an identical specification to the regular GTS, but with half the memory (500Mhz core, 96 x 1200Mhz stream processors, 640MB of 800Mhz (1.6Ghz) GDDR3 over a 320-bit memory interface). The 8800GTX 320MB Edition is expected to be priced at between US$299-$349.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ is expected to be released on February 20th. The AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ features a 3Ghz clock speed and 1MB L2 cache per core (2MB).

AMD 690G, formally known as the ATI RS690, chipset for the AM2 platform was released on February 28th. RS690 is the successor of the RS48x series and features an integrated modified version of the X700 DX9 SM2 core (as opposed to the integrated X300 core of the RS48x series), renamed to Radeon X1250 for this release, featuring four pixel pipelines but no vertex pipelines, which are now supported in software, and a 400Mhz GPU clock (dependant on manufacturer - this may be clocked at 500Mhz on some boards). Additionally the RS690 features native DVI and HDMI output capabilities with support for HDCP and support for DDR2-667 memory, 1xPCI Express x16 port and 4xPCI Express x1 ports and a North Bridge based HD Audio controller (allowing HDMI audio). RS690 will be used in combination with the SB600 South Bridge.

AMD 690V chipset for the AM2 platform is expected to be released on February 28th. A cut down version of the 690G, the 690V features a Radeon X1200 core, featuring D-SUB VGA / TV Out outputs only (i.e. no DVI/HDMI with HDCP).

03

Windows Server 2003 x64 Service Pack 2 was released on March 13th for both 32 and 64-bit platforms and is suitable for deployment on Windows Server 2003 R2. Service Pack 2 includes all previously released Security Bulletin Updates, roll-ups of all individual hotfixes released since Windows Server 2003 was first released, fixes to increase reliability, robustness and security, and a collection of customer requested features and features to support Windows Vista. Windows 2003 SP2 also includes a few new features including Windows Deployment Services, Microsoft Management Console 3.0, Wi-Fi Protected Access 2.0, the Scalable Networking Pack, per-port Firewall authentication capabilities, and some performance improvements for Windows Virtualization.

nVidia nForce 680i LT chipset for the Intel Core architecture was quietly released in Late March. The 680i LT is a cut down version of the 680i SLI. The LT version features DDR2-800 (rather than 1200), 8xUSB2 (rather than 10), 1GbE (rather than 2), no LinkBoost and reduced FSB overclockability.

nVidia MCP68 is expected to be released in March. MCP68 is a single chip, integrated graphics chipset with an 11W TDP. The integrated graphics in MCP68 are based around a GeForce 7 series (DX9) core, featuring support for high-definition video and integrating HDMI and DVI output capabilities with built-in HDCP keys. In addition MCP68 will feature 1xPCIe x16, 3xPCIe X1, 4xSATA 3.0 Gbps ports, 12xUSB2 ports, Gigabit Ethernet and a single PATA channel.

nVidia nForce 7000 chipset for the AMD architecture is expected to be released in March.

Q1

AMD Opteron 890 & 290 are expected to be released in Early 2007. These dual core CPUs, based on the Italy and Egypt cores respectively, will have a Socket 940 interface and be clocked at 2.8Ghz.
